Traverse City Hearing Aid - EvaluationYour Path to Better Hearing

A Thorough Evaluation

At Audicare we'll perform the most thorough hearing evaluation you've ever received. Our goal is to find out as much as we can about your hearing, so we'll be able to explain how you hear to you and help you understand how much improvement you can expect.

A professional hearing evaluation can answer your questions. You need to know the type of hearing loss you have and your ability to benefit from amplification.

  • If recruitment effects you, then will it also effect your ability to adjust to amplification?
  • How clearly can you understand conversation when it is presented at a loud enough level (no lip-reading)?
  • How much amplification is your present system providing for you?
  • Is the volume appropriate for your loss?
  • Can the tone be modified to improve the quality?
  • Is the appearance satisfactory or are tubes, connectors or faceplates yellowed and dirty?
  • Is whistling an embarrassment to you or to those to whom you are talking?

There's a Few Things We Need to Find Out

  • We need to know how well you hear soft speech sounds and soft tones or pitches.
  • We need to know how sensitive you are to loud sounds.
  • We need to know if speech is clearly understood when it is loud enough for you hear.
  • We need to know how background noises affect your understanding of speech.

All this information helps us create a picture of your hearing ability so we can help you choose the solution that will give you the best improvement for your hearing.

We Also Do a Number of Tests

  • Audiometric Test of frequency-specific sensitivity
  • Speech Reception Test to pin-point the lowest volume at which you can identify words
  • Word Recognition Test to evaluate your hearing clarity for speech
  • Impedance Screening Test to detect middle ear of eardrum problems
  • Loudness Test to determine the range of sounds most comfortable to you
  • Speech Recognition of Noise to quantify the impact background noise has on your understanding of speech

A major obstacle to improving your lifestyle has been overcome once you have made the decision to get hearing help. However, the time you take to investigate the quality of help available to you will greatly affect your chances of success. The fitting of a hearing aid is a process and not the quest for the best gadget produced.
