Your Path to Better Hearing

You Choose the Solution

At Audicare, we help you choose your hearing solution based on recommendations tailored to your needs and hearing information. We'll monitor your results every step of the way, measuring your improvements to determine how much better you really do hear, using tones or speech.

When a hearing aid is fit, the tone quality must be natural and the fit comfortable. If not, the chances of adjusting to the use of a hearing aid are slim. The appearance must be proper and pleasing to you and others in your circle of friends. An obvious or uncomfortable instrument may detract from self confidence and interfere with communication.

Many hearing aids have electronic adjustments which can be made in the office of a hearing professional while you listen. There are also acoustic modifications which can reduce the output of your instruments and increase your comfort and clarity of hearing. If excessive whistling is your problem, a buildup of ear wax which is easily identifiable by a hearing professional could be your real problem or it may be necessary to improve the fit of your instrument through recasting or an improved ear mold. Periodic checkups can increase the useful life of your instrument and maintain your benefit at its optimal level. Your best benefit depends on a continuing relationship with your hearing professional.

We test your hearing aid at their final settings, so that we have a record of just how those aids are performing. This is important as we monitor their performance over time. Before we're done, we'll ask you if you have achieved the hearing results you were hoping for. We're not happy until you are.

If hearing aids don't improve every situation, we'll find the other tools to improve your hearing in those challenging situations.

Get the Most From Your System

The amount of power must be adjusted for your needs. If your hearing aid is not powerful enough, you may be unable to hear in spite of the use of your instrument. You may find yourself tuning up the volume until you are bothered by "feedback" or whistling, which calls attention to you and your hearing aid. If you tune the volume control to its maximum setting, the clarity of the signal may be affected and the drain on your batteries accelerated.

You may simply be frustrated by the sensation of "plugging" your ears when you wear a hearing aid which is not powerful enough. However, under-fitting is rarely the problem, over-fitting is almost always the reason for an unsatisfactory fitting.

Too much power causes people to reject their hearing aids and to actually stop using them. Too much power can also cause physical discomfort to people who suffer from recruitment.

Recruitment is a common condition associated with nerve-type hearing loss where the listener is unable to tolerate loud sounds or where a small increase in noise is perceived as an uncomfortable increase in loudness. A hearing aid with too much power can cause continual discomfort for you and will eventually lead to the rejection of your hearing aid.
